Leather Books

I also like to make books from recycled materials. The books I make range from binders made from scrap wood to recycled leather journals. I try my hardest to incorporate as much recycled and re-used materials as possible; the paper I use is all off-cut scraps from a local paper cutter; from old binders I salvage the book board and binder rings to make my books. Like all my products my books are 100% hand-made one of a kind pieces. Artwork and styles range in accordance with each individual piece. My books are great for journals, pocket sketch books, photo albums, organizers or telephone books. For more picture see broundoorpics.blogspot.com

What is Broundoor?

Hi. My name is Marc Simard. I am a Montreal based self taught artisan that works with recycled materials. I have been working on my craft for about three years now. I am constantly trying to improve on my techniques, designs and functionality of my wares with a commitment to ever more green practices. Broundoor is the brand I have given to all of my work intended for my consumers.
My inspiration comes from a desire to give everyday articles a quality of uniqueness. It is my belief that if we surround ourselves with items that mean something to us we are less inclined to replace them before their time- quality over quantity. I make everything myself and prefer that every item is a one of a kind with no reproductions or prints.
I try my hardest to use as much recycled materials as possible. This might be an old jacket transformed into wallet linings, off-cuts or scraps into a purse, or an old bag becoming a leather bound book. I do have to use new materials such as fixings, hardware and thread (until I find new sources that have recycled options), in these cases I try my best to use high quality materials like archival glues, solid snaps, and strong threads. I hope that you can see the care I put into my work with the quality of the finished items.
The recycled materials I use come from an endless variety of sources. Most of the leather and fabric are either thrift store finds that are meticulously taken apart and re-worked into new items, or off-cut scraps I get from upholsterers or boot makers. Wood and HDF are mostly off-cuts or salvage finds such as the back of old furniture, construction site waste, or end-cuts from the hardware store. All materials are cleaned and prepped to ensure that their quality is of a high standard.

Custom

I do take on some custom work so long as their designs, styles or ideas are compatible with our own. Most of my custom work consists of recreating my existing designs and artwork into new combinations and pieces. For example someone likes the 'tree limb' motif they saw on a belt...
and wants it on a bag...or on an 'Onanno' long wallet.I will do other types of custom jobs, however since it is still my name on the piece there are some rules to follow. If you are interested in a custom order please contact me directly at marximard@gmail.com
